About WordModulePlus Installation

WordModulePlus is a component that enables the viewing and editing of Microsoft Word and Excel files directly within a PolicyTech browser window or in a separate but linked application window (undocked mode).

Important: WordModulePlus is built on an aging technology that Microsoft no longer supports. We suggest using the Office Online Module instead of WordModulePlus if possible. Office Online Module requires a Microsoft 365 Business subscription but does NOT require that anything be installed on user computers.

You can install WordModulePlus using one of the following methods.

  • Default Installation Method. When PolicyTech is installed, the files necessary for a user to install WordModulePlus are placed in the PolicyTech directory structure on the server. The first time a user opens a Word document in PolicyTech, the user is prompted to download and install WordModulePlus from the PolicyTech server. No administrator help is required, but users must have local administrator rights.

  • Manual Installation Method. Someone with local administrator rights for users' computers, such as a network administrator, logs on to each PolicyTech user's computer and installs WordModulePlus from a network drive.
